Bridal Buying Guide

Go a Size Up (or more)

Most wedding dresses are European sized, and as such are smaller than American sizes. So, if you are used to wearing a size 10 in street clothes, you would be wise to purchase a size 12 or even 14 wedding dress. If a size 12 wedding dress equals a size 10, buying a size 14 is a safer option. Taking a dress in is much easier on almost every dress than trying to make a dress that is too small fit. Ideally, know your measurements. The most common measurements for wedding dresses are the bust, waist and hips. Length is not important as most dresses will need to be hemmed.

Find Your Style

If you have the option, try on dresses in a store to get an idea of what style you like.  It is not uncommon for a bride to love the style of a dress based on pictures, but after trying on dresses, realize another style is more flattering for her body.  Review some blogs and information that help you to match the dress style with your body type to have a complimentary and flattering look.

Consider Fabric

Do you prefer the lace or the satin?  Do you like a modern look with flair or do you like a more traditional design?  If you have an idea of what accessories you plan on wearing, consider those and how the whole bridal look will come together.

Decide on a Color

Lastly, consider which wedding dress color complements your natural skin tone. True white wedding dresses can wash out paler skin tones, they look excellent on darker and olive skin tones. Ivory is a romantic and popular choice and also the most versatile on wedding dress fabrics. And the best part? It goes beautifully with lace!
